Charlotte, NC is mostly known for being an important banking and financial city. However, it has also been the site of some recent manufacturing growth as well. Among those settling into Charlotte is Colquímica Adhesives, which is set to open its first U.S. facility in the city.
Based in Portugal, Colquímica Adhesives will be securing a 100,000 square-foot space for their new facility, with plans to open this month. The plant will be located in a newly constructed building in WestPark 85, which is an industrial park located by the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. According to Foundry Commercial, the developer of WestPark 85, the entire building has 202,148 of total square-footage.
Colquímica will be one of three tenants in the building, which is now fully leased. The other two spaces in the building are occupied by Teknos, a Finnish-based coating manufacturer, and Transbotics, a robotics engineering company. WestPark 85 is also home to a new 566,800 square-foot distribution center for Amazon, which was announced last September and will employ over 1,000 people.
Currently, Colquímica plans to use the new facility to produce adhesives for the personal hygiene, packaging, and product assembly sectors. The company will also be hiring 30 employees to work there in the short term, and the facility will boost its manufacturing capacity by 20%. Additionally, the facility will be used to service North American markets, along with markets in Latin America.
Pedro Gonçalves, CEO of Colquímica Adhesives Inc said that Charlotte will be “an outstanding and strategic location for us,” as by being “situated in a central point on the East Coast”, Colquímica will be able to provide “a close service to Colquímicas’ customers, with good proximity to all the main industrial states and major cities. It is very well served in terms of logistic infrastructure, road communications, and sea harbors.”
