Remy Drabkin is a pioneering winemaker who impacts her industry as a top producer of non-traditional grape varieties. From an early age, Remy was inspired to preserve and promote the spirit of Oregon’s winemakers, designing her first wine label in 5th grade. Today, she is the owner of the renowned Remy Wines, Three Wives Wines, and the newly released Black Heart by Remy. In this episode, she gets candid about her experience as a gay woman in a male-dominated industry, sharing the various forms of prejudice she has come up against, from being overlooked as a winemaker to being criticized for celebrating Gay Pride. She talks about her process of conceptualizing the design for each label and paying tribute to key family members by incorporating their stories and names in creative ways, and why she decided to hold back on the release of her most recent label for fear of co-opting the Black Lives Matter symbolism. Remy gives advice for those who are looking to get into the industry, explaining what you might expect in terms of the work required to be successful and showing up in a social community of food and wine lovers
